Katarina

The companion who joined the TARDIS, pressed all the wrong buttons, and was gone faster than you can say ‘airlock.

Character Overview

Katarina (played by Adrienne Hill) was a handmaiden of the prophetess Cassandra during the events of The Myth Makers(1965). After Cassandra’s death, Katarina somehow decided that the Doctor was a god (a mistake that probably happens more often than you’d think) and stowed away on the TARDIS. Unfortunately, being a Bronze Age servant girl in a time machine full of buttons, blinking lights, and Daleks was… less “grand adventure” and more “confusing nightmare.”

Katarina’s main contribution to the TARDIS team was looking utterly baffled by everything around her, occasionally referring to the Doctor as a divine being, and reminding viewers just how incredibly impractical it is to drag someone from ancient Troy into intergalactic crises. Historical fish-out-of-water companions are fun in theory, but Katarina was so far out of her depth it was like dropping a goldfish in the Mariana Trench.

Her tenure ended in The Daleks’ Master Plan, where she was taken hostage aboard a spaceship. Realizing she was putting the Doctor and Steven in danger, Katarina opened the airlock and ejected both herself and her captor into the cold void of space. It was noble, tragic, and one of the darkest exits for any companion. The only upside? She spared herself the other eleven episodes of that marathon misery-fest.
