The Robot Revolution

Kidnapped by robots. Declared queen. Time fractures everywhere.

Short Synopsis

Nurse Belinda Chandra is abducted by giant robots to be their queen, the Doctor races to get her back, and by the end Earth on 24 May 2025 might be… gone.

Extended Storyline

Belinda Chandra is introduced in grounded, realistic fashion—she’s a nurse, lives in London, and has a boyfriend (Alan Budd) who once got her a “star certificate,” naming a star “Miss Belinda Chandra” in her honour. Seventeen years later, that certificate becomes the spark for her abduction: a rocket lands in her back garden, giant red robots arrive, and Belinda is whisked off to their spaceship along with said certificate. They tell her she is now queen of a planet named after her (yes, really: “Missbelindachandraville”) and expected to “merge” with their overlord, the Great AI Generator, in order to bring peace between humanoids and robots in civil war. The Doctor gives chase in the TARDIS, but things go sideways: the ships pass through a time fracture, a recurring sci-fi headache, splitting their paths. The Doctor lands on Missbelindachandra One six months before Belinda does. What follows is a civil war between humans and robots. Sasha 55 is a rebel leader who sees Belinda as more than “queen”—he sees a chance for peace. Belinda objects to the idea of rulership and marriage to the AI overlord. The AI Generator reveals itself to be Alan Budd, Belinda’s ex, who got captured and machine-merged via earlier time fractures. He’s gone mad with power, using his star certificate as literal legitimacy. Doctor Who+2TARDIS Fandom+2

In the thick of rebellion, there’s a clever trick: the Doctor embeds a secret message in his speech (due to a flaw in the robots’ AI hearing: they miss every ninth word) to signal the rebels when to rise. Rebels fight. Sasha 55 is heroic but dies in the struggle. Belinda, torn between guilt and duty, activates a robot called Scoot to be taken to Alan/the AI to try to stop more bloodshed. The Doctor and Belinda use the matched star certificates (hers and Alan’s) to create a paradox – Alan is reduced to a microscopic “state” (essentially undone), the robot leadership collapses, and the war ends. Victory is bittersweet. Belinda wants to go home to Earth on 24 May 2025, the date she was kidnapped. But the TARDIS can’t land on Earth that day. Something catastrophic seems to have happened there. As the TARDIS dematerialises, we see bits of Earth landmarks floating through space, and a calendar frozen on 24 May 2025. Whatever has occurred, it prevents Belinda returning home. The Doctor and Belinda are thus locked into a mystery: what happened on that date?
