“Barbara tries to rewrite history with the power of sass and better hygiene.”
Short Synopsis
Barbara is mistaken for an Aztec goddess and decides this is her chance to stop human sacrifice. Spoiler: the Doctor tells her time doesn’t work that way, but she tries anyway.
Extended Storyline
When the TARDIS lands in 15th-century Mexico, Barbara slips into some fancy bracelets and is immediately declared the reincarnation of the goddess Yetaxa. Naturally, she decides to use her new divine influence to outlaw human sacrifice. Because why not fix history while you’re at it?
The Doctor is horrified: “You can’t rewrite history, not one line!” (a phrase fans will quote until the end of time). Ian gets conscripted into gladiator school, Susan gets engaged against her will, and the Doctor himself accidentally gets engaged to an Aztec woman named Cameca after enjoying a suspiciously nice cup of cocoa.
It all ends with Barbara realizing that history doesn’t bend just because you’re the loudest in the room. Sacrifices still happen, and the TARDIS crew barely escape with their lives.
