What could possibly go wrong with a wildly successful tech company run by a suspiciously perfect man? Spoiler: everything.
Short Synopsis
Sarah Jane and her team investigate the mysterious success of the SerfBoard — the must-have laptop of the year, brought to you by charismatic businessman Joseph Serf. But Serf isn’t what he seems. In fact, he isn’t even human. Behind his glossy smile is a pair of enslaved aliens being forced to run the show — literally. Time to crash this corporate takeover and expose the real monsters: unethical management and terrible branding.
Extended Storyline
Business is booming on Earth. Everyone and their nan is buying the new SerfBoard, the sleekest laptop on the market. It’s fast, affordable, and eerily addictive. Naturally, Sarah Jane smells something fishy — and not just because she’s seen The Apprentice. When Luke returns home for a visit (and for some much-needed snarky family time), the team decides to investigate Joseph Serf, the mysterious tech mogul behind the craze.
At first glance, Serf seems harmless — a PR dream with perfect hair and a motivational smile that could melt steel. But when Sarah Jane sneaks into a Serf Industries press conference, things get… weird. Serf’s movements are slightly off, his speech is robotic, and there’s the minor detail that his eyes flicker like dodgy Christmas lights.
Behind the curtain — literally — we discover the truth: Serf is a hologram being controlled by two enslaved aliens known as the Skullions. They’ve been captured by Serf’s unscrupulous human manager, Harrison, who uses a remote control to puppeteer the “CEO” and make a fortune off their forced labor. Harrison’s entire business empire, it turns out, is built on exploitation — because capitalism, even in space, never changes.
Sarah Jane, Luke, Clyde, Rani, and Sky infiltrate Serf Industries and uncover the full horror of Harrison’s operation. Using the classic “pretend-to-be-IT-staff” infiltration technique (because who questions IT staff?), they manage to find the Skullions and free them. Harrison, naturally, throws a fit about losing his intergalactic sweatshop. In true poetic justice, he gets zapped by the very alien tech he used to enslave others — proving once again that karma has excellent timing.
Meanwhile, Luke and Sky form an instant sibling bond, with Luke now realizing he’s not the only “found family” child in Sarah Jane’s world. Their dynamic gives the story an unexpected warmth amid the corporate chaos. Sarah Jane, as ever, saves the day, shuts down the fake CEO, and gives the Skullions their freedom — no invoice necessary.
As the episode closes, Bannerman Road feels a little fuller — Luke’s home, Sky’s settled in, and for one last time, Sarah Jane smiles proudly at her mismatched, miraculous family.
