Goodbye, Sarah Jane Smith

Sarah Jane faces her greatest fear: being replaced. And by someone so charming it’s almost rude.

Short Synopsis

When a seemingly perfect new adventurer named Ruby White moves in nearby, Sarah Jane finds herself suddenly… obsolete. As her health mysteriously declines and Ruby takes over as Bannerman Road’s new alien expert, something seems terribly off — and for once, it’s not Clyde’s homework. Turns out Ruby is a literal parasite feeding on Sarah Jane’s life force. Because of course she is. It’s The Sarah Jane Adventures — emotional trauma with aliens!

Extended Storyline

Life on Bannerman Road has been unusually calm — a phrase that in itself is a cosmic omen. But peace doesn’t last long when meteors begin plummeting toward Earth like bowling balls of doom. The team jumps into action, only for Sarah Jane to suddenly falter mid-investigation. She’s weak, dizzy, and… not herself. The woman who has saved the world before breakfast now can’t even manage a mid-morning alien invasion without feeling faint.

Enter Ruby White, new neighbor and “fellow defender of Earth.” She’s charismatic, smart, and weirdly good at tech that should take a small fortune and several UNIT clearance levels to access. The gang is dazzled — especially Luke, who’s home from university and ready to help out. Ruby steps in, helps track the meteors, and even has her own massivecomputer system, which feels suspiciously too convenient. Sarah Jane starts to worry that her adventuring days are over — that maybe she’s just too old, too tired, and too irrelevant. Which is devastating, because we all know Sarah Jane is the definition of relevant.

Eventually, Sarah Jane’s condition worsens to the point where she collapses, and Ruby whisks her away — “for care,” of course. But in true Doctor Who fashion, “care” translates to “sinister imprisonment.” Ruby, it turns out, isn’t human at all — she’s an alien called a Qetesh, and her ship’s AI stomach (yes, really) is feeding on Sarah Jane’s emotions like a moody space leech. With Sarah Jane out of the way, Ruby plans to replace her entirely and take over her life.

Meanwhile, Luke, Clyde, and Rani finally start connecting the dots — like the fact that Ruby has a cellar-sized stomach for a spaceship and keeps talking to her “stomach AI” in her house. A quick bit of sneaking around later, they manage to uncover the truth and rescue Sarah Jane from her intergalactic cell. Sarah Jane, being the absolute legend she is, turns the tables on Ruby and traps her in her own ship — sending her and her sentient digestive tract off to the stars.

Back home, Sarah Jane reclaims her mantle as Earth’s most tenacious journalist, her faith in herself restored. And her team? Well, they realize that no one could ever replace Sarah Jane Smith — not even a posh alien with a spaceship stomach and great hair.
